Proof of Work (PoW)

PoW is a protocol designed primarily to prevent and deter cyber-attacks on the network, and it also allows a distributed consensus of “trustless” transactions. PoW is needed to solve exceptionally difficult math problems, a process called Mining, which is used to write a new trustless transaction group in the Blockchain.

Proof of Stake (PoS)

PoS is executed by miners who put a number of their coins on a block to check transaction blocks. The miner is chosen deterministically by the algorithm based on the amount of coins he owns, for long time he owns them, and other factors based on how the algorithm is structured. PoS is faster and more efficient than PoW system. PoS solves the problem of energy consumption as it requires less energy than PoW and is a safer network as it defends against 51% attacks on the Blockchain.

SHA-256

SHA-256 is the most commonly used algorithm in the Cryptocurrency world that was popularized by Bitcoin, It also allows the community to combine their resources together like a mining pool and also use specialised hardware for faster mining.

SCRYPT

Used in popular coins such as Litecoin, it is also a PoW platform and mining must be maintained as well. However it is generally much faster than the SHA-256 algorithm. It is easier to create semi-ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) resistance with this platform to mitigate inexpensive mining operations from overtaking the hash power.

X-11

As a company, you may have a requirement that mining pool or ASIC is not used at all. In such case, we would advise using X-11, which comprises 11 different hashing algorithms. It is also faster than SCRYPT or SHA-256.
